"THEY’VE
raised more than £3,500 from pub quizzes helping to circulate
money back into the local community. The
Crown Inn, Kings Somborne’s only pub have been raising funds
for local projects since it came under new management two years
ago.
Since then, the local school, scouts and junior football club have
all benefited from the cash raised through the quiz. The weekly
winners of the quiz choose which local charity or community group
receives the prize pot and can also donate their own personal winnings
too. Around 40 people attend the Tuesday night quiz every week and
the money has provided the school with new rubbish bins, redecorated
the entire scout hut and contributed to redecorating the village
hall.
Landlady
Judith Evans, who runs the pub with landlord Terry Minter, said:
“We wanted to do a regular fund raising event because the
pub is very much a
part of the village community. “As part of that we wanted
to make sure we were putting something back in to the community.
“We’re delighted with the response we’ve had to
the quiz, it’s become a weekly social event for people and
it’s very much about getting people involved.” |
